Ron Murray Open Water Diver certification is the basic course for those seeking beginning scuba diver certification. The SDI Open Water Diver course is composed of three components that prepare the student to undertake planning and executing dives safely and confidently. Knowledge Development Open Water Scuba Diver certification begins as soon as you register. You will receive access to the SDI Open Water Diver eLearning which makes it possible for you to complete all of the academic requirements for your entry-level certification online. Traditionally carried out in a classroom setting by your instructor, online learning has become more popular to accommodate busy schedules and allow students to proceed at their own pace. Confined Water Dives. During your confined water training, you will learn and practice scuba skills in a pool or open body of water with pool-like conditions under direct instructor supervision. As you become familiar with scuba gear and learn new skills, you’ll develop abilities and build the confidence needed to plan and execute a dive in an open water environment such as in a lake or the ocean. Open Water Dives. The final step is to complete the required number of SDI open-water training dives under the supervision of your SDI Instructor. Here you will apply what you have learned during your academic and skill-development sessions, while learning practical lessons that can only be gained through real-world experience in open water. Open Water checkout dives will be conducted over a Saturday and Sunday at Laurel Lake near Corbin, KY. Students are required to purchase or rent personal gear (mask, fins, boots and snorkel). KY Diver, LLC will provide rental personal gear and provides a 30% discount for personal gear purchases for EKU Community Education students. Details will be provided upon registration. Supplies in the amount of $116 will be payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.
