OSHA 2255 - Principles of Ergonomics

This course covers the use of ergonomic principles to recognize, evaluate, and control workplace conditions that cause or contribute to musculoskeletal and nerve disorders. Course topics include work physiology, anthropometry, musculoskeletal disorders, use of video display terminals, and risk factors such as vibration, temperature, material handling, repetition, and lifting and patient transfers in health care. Course emphasis is on industrial case studies covering analysis and design of work stations and equipment workshops in manual lifting, and coverage of current OSHA compliance policies and guidelines. Upon course completion, students will have the ability to recognize workrelated musculoskeletal and nerve disorders, assess employer’s ergonomic programs, and conduct ergonomic evaluations.

Class will end at appoximately noon on Wednesday. EKU OTIEC - Inclement Weather Policy Due to contact hour requirements from the U.S. Department of Labor, the EKU OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) may continue to hold training classes even when EKU is delayed or closed for inclement weather. The OTIEC holds courses throughout an 8-state region, oftentimes on a contractual basis. In inclement weather, the OTIEC Administrator will evaluate the situation and discuss options with the Lead Instructor for the class. Once a decision has been made, the Center for Career & Workforce Development Director will be notified as well as the OTIEC staff. Staff members will be available to inform participants. Students are always informed to make their own decisions concerning safe travel. In winter months, OSHA staff will request a cell phone number for each participant so communication can be established if an alternate schedule is necessary.
