This course covers OSHA Electrical Standards and the hazards associated with electrical installations and equipment. Course topics include single- and three-phase systems, cord- and plugconnected and fixed equipment, grounding, ground fault circuit interrupters, and safety-related work practices. Emphasis is placed on electrical hazard recognition and OSHA Standards, policies, and procedures and applicable portions of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Students will participate in workshops on the safe and correct use of electrical testing equipment. Upon course completion, students will have the ability to understand the severity of electrical current on the human body, recognize and evaluate actual and potential electrical hazards and reference the applicable OSHA Standard, determine hazard abatement measures, and understand the proper use of electrical testing equipment.

Class will end at appoximately noon on Friday. EKU OTIEC - Inclement Weather Policy Due to contact hour requirements from the U.S. Department of Labor, the EKU OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) may continue to hold training classes even when EKU is delayed or closed for inclement weather. The OTIEC holds courses throughout an 8-state region, oftentimes on a contractual basis. In inclement weather, the OTIEC Administrator will evaluate the situation and discuss options with the Lead Instructor for the class. Once a decision has been made, the Center for Career & Workforce Development Director will be notified as well as the OTIEC staff. Staff members will be available to inform participants. Students are always informed to make their own decisions concerning safe travel. In winter months, OSHA staff will request a cell phone number for each participant so communication can be established if an alternate schedule is necessary.
