This course covers industrial hygiene practices and related OSHA regulations and procedures. Course topics include recognition, evaluation, and control of chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic hazards, Permissible Exposure
Limits (PEL), OSHA health standards, respiratory protection, engineering controls, OSHA sampling protocols and strategies, and workplace health program elements. The course features workshops in health hazard recognition, OSHA health standards and use of sampling equipment. Upon course completion, students will have the ability to recognize basic industrial hygiene principles and practices, identify characteristics of common air contaminants, locate PELs, perform basic industrial hygiene calculations, and determine methods for hazard control and abatement.

Class will end at appoximately noon on Friday. Please bring a calculator and laptop if possible. Internet Access will be available in the classroom. EKU OTIEC - Inclement Weather Policy Due to contact hour requirements from the U.S. Department of Labor, the EKU OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) may continue to hold training classes even when EKU is delayed or closed for inclement weather. The OTIEC holds courses throughout an 8-state region, oftentimes on a contractual basis. In inclement weather, the OTIEC Administrator will evaluate the situation and discuss options with the Lead Instructor for the class. Once a decision has been made, the Center for Career & Workforce Development Director will be notified as well as the OTIEC staff. Staff members will be available to inform participants. Students are always informed to make their own decisions concerning safe travel. In winter months, OSHA staff will request a cell phone number for each participant so communication can be established if an alternate schedule is necessary. Gary Foltz

www.osha.eku.edu Gary Foltz is a Senior Manager with the Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company responsible for Corporate Safety and Industrial Hygiene. Gary graduated from the University of Cincinnati's Department of Environmental Health with a MS in Environmental Health/Industrial Hygiene. He also has a BA in Biology and a MBA from Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and a Certified Utility Safety Administrator and has worked in the medical, chemical, nuclear, and telecommunications industries. He is a member of the KY-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team responding to disasters nationwide. In addition, Gary has over 35 years of volunteer fire and emergency service experience and is currently an EMT and Assistant Fire Chief with the Crescent Springs/Villa Hills Fire & EMS Department.
